Lincoln is one of the country’s oldest and most historic cities, but The University of Lincoln is one of the country’s newest universities. It’s won critical acclaim for its architecture and its teaching practices. When the Vice Chancellor who’d overseen this development decided to retire, the university asked us to record his achievements in a commemorative book.
We used the idea of old and new as a springboard for our design. It was case bound using a traditional bookbinding technique, yet its solid yellow colour and gloss lamination brought it firmly into the modern era. We further emphasised the contrast of old and new by using a single colour black on a pastel yellow throughout the intro section, followed by a super gloss coated second section.
