With parliamentary elections looming in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, the BHF wanted to make sure heart disease was high on every party’s political agenda.
To influence politicians, we leveraged the BHF’s huge network of supporters by creating a simple mechanic that allowed thousands of people to show their backing for the campaign. We built a page at bhf.org.uk where supporters could register their support and used the hashtag #BackTheBeat to spread the word.
We also helped people show their support on social media by creating a simple, shareable selfie device using a clenched fist over the heart. The campaign was supported by leaflets, shop posters, banner ads and exhibition stands at party conferences, all featuring a wide variety of real BHF supporters from students to celebrity rugby players.
